impromptu after-party

it would have been nice to have the girls burst in the door after the first day of school and be overwhelmingly excited to share their adventures of the day with me.

to hear about their table-mates. their teachers. their old friends. their new friends.

but, alas. the neighbor across the street had the inflatable water slide set up.

the girls burst through the door talking a mile a minute about it and could they PLEASE get their bathing suits on and go over....

so the wonderful mom that i am, included porter in their little get-away and sent them across the street to an impromptu first-day-of-school-after-party.

molly and i joined a few minutes later to discover a majority of the kids on our cul-de-sac were at the 'party' (which isn't hard to do when all four of mine, and all 5 of the hosting house were there!) another mom baked special cupcakes during the day (her first day as a SAHM with both her kids now in school all day) she made cupcakes with cute little buses on them. buses made out of vanilla wafers cut to the shape of a bus. buses that had windows piped in frosting on them. i turned to the mom of the hosting house (with 5 kids) and asked if she had time to bake cupcakes that day. we both laughed.

here's some snapshots of the fun:

i told the neighbors - thanks for starting a new tradition, we'll all be over next year after the first day of school!
